4 signs that you should make a career change...

source
LOL The thought has crossed my mind......my career has been weighing very heavy on my mind lately.  I'm 44 and feel like I'm going nowhere.  I've been at the same company for almost 25 years (with a 9 month break in there somewhere to try my hand at real estate).  So where am I going?  I don't know.  The unknown is freaky.  So I've come up with 4 signs that might give you a hint that it's time....time for a change.

You day-dream about what kind of adult beverage you're going to have when you get home......OH YES!  This is so me lately.  I think about it often.  It takes the edge off, you know?  Helps me forget the days happenings and relax.  C'mon!  Who doesn't like an adult beverage????  (OK OK, maybe not every night of the week....)

You start to finish the sentences of the people calling you......  Yep, I do that sometimes.  People will call in and they sometimes are confused, not sure what they mean, or just really don't know what they are talking about.  It takes a lot of patience to sit there and listen to them ramble.  Sometimes I help them out.....LOL

You do not speak on the phone outside of your job...... Ohhhhh yea....totally me again. Seriously....text me...do not call.  LOL  Growing up (ask my Mommy!!) I used to L-O-V-E being on the phone.  I had all my friend's phone numbers memorized.  I would yap on the phone till my Mom told me it was time to get off.  Now?  I rarely answer my cell phone.  Just the thought of talking sometimes makes me cringe.  Guess that is what happens after 25 years of yacking on the phone for a living.  Sad, but true.  So if I talk to you on the phone.....consider yourself lucky!  :)

You start to express your opinions to management more.....  Well...this might be your personality normally.  But for me, I usually do not do this.  However, lately I find myself expressing myself more and more.  Maybe I'm just getting older, or beginning not to really care what they think of me.  The above "someecard" is funny to me....I say we are treated like mushrooms all the time.  LOL!

So there you have my 4 signs.  Can you relate to these?  Tell me in the comments!

6 things about my job that amuse me

6 things about my job that amuse me:

Wait, What?!  If you are going to call me for a part number, please have a pen/pencil and paper in front of you.  Nothing like rattling off the part number and have the person on the other end of the phone go “oh wait, let me get some paper and a pen”.  !!!!!!!!!

You’re breaking up!  This one makes me chuckle.  All my calls are answered on a land line and a lot of calls we receive nowadays are from a mobile device.  So it’s funny when you’re trying to talk to someone and they say “You’re breaking up”.  Um, hello, I’m the one on the land line.

The last to know!  Sometimes my customers will call me with information about a promotion that I was not aware of.  Wow, that’s embarrassing!

Is there a “technician” available?  I have heard this one for years.  Yes people, I am a female.  I CAN help you.  I CAN give you technical support.   They ask me a question, I answer (correctly at that!).  Then I get “hmm OK, well is there a technician I can talk to?”  *slaps forehead*

I’m sorry, WHAT DID YOU SAY?  It’s hard when a customer service department is located in the front office.  Because 85% of the time you come up here we are on the phone.  Which means you are being loud and I can not hear what my customer is saying.

Awkward silence is OK.  Yes, it IS!  Regardless of what you think.  You do not have to fill every silent moment with mindless chatter.  If you've been reading my blogs, you realize this is a pet peeve of mine.  LOL

So what things amuse you at your job?

Customer Service-isms...

Oh the joy of working in the customer service field!  If you are currently employed in customer service you will know exactly what I am talking about.

From the co worker that points out the obvious to start conversation ("oh wow, making copies, huh?" YOU THINK?!), to the people calling us with their strange antics, grumpy personalities and whatever else be wrong with them.  Luckily I work with very funny people, so usually we can let these things roll right off and laugh them off.  We are amused by the littlest things.  People's accents (and yes, if you are NOT from Pennsylvania, you sound like you have an accent to us), the strange things they ask, and don't forget the other people that work in the building who can be just as strange (and don't forget condescending)!

How about the person that calls and is requesting a part number for a product, you probably know it off the top of your head, so you may ask a few questions to be sure you are giving the correct part number.  You start rattling off the number and the person says "Oh wait...let me get a pen and paper".  Ok, now if you were calling for a part number, wouldn't you have that ready?

A lot of the funny stuff happens after the call ends and we share amongst ourselves what might have just happened.  For instance, the other day, my co worker was talking with a person who works for the same company but in a different city (her name is "rude").  After the call my co worker says "Is this a truck stop, or WHAT??"  LOL In which I replied "Perhaps, because she answers her emails the same way she answers her phone".  Ay Ay Ay!

Then there is the type of person who will throw you under the bus.  These people we usually know about ahead of time and they are known as "bus pushers".   There are also people who will reply to emails (even management) and they do not use spell check.  This annoys me.  They also will not read the entire email they are responding to; therefore, will give some off the wall, misspelled reply that makes absolutely no sense.  These are known as "knee jerk" replies.

So there is a Friday blog for you.  Just a little insight to the customer service world.  I'm sure I will touch on this some more in another blog since the list keeps growing.

Have a nice weekend everyone!
