4 signs that you should make a career change...

source
LOL The thought has crossed my mind......my career has been weighing very heavy on my mind lately.  I'm 44 and feel like I'm going nowhere.  I've been at the same company for almost 25 years (with a 9 month break in there somewhere to try my hand at real estate).  So where am I going?  I don't know.  The unknown is freaky.  So I've come up with 4 signs that might give you a hint that it's time....time for a change.

source
You day-dream about what kind of adult beverage you're going to have when you get home......OH YES!  This is so me lately.  I think about it often.  It takes the edge off, you know?  Helps me forget the days happenings and relax.  C'mon!  Who doesn't like an adult beverage????  (OK OK, maybe not every night of the week....)

source
You start to finish the sentences of the people calling you......  Yep, I do that sometimes.  People will call in and they sometimes are confused, not sure what they mean, or just really don't know what they are talking about.  It takes a lot of patience to sit there and listen to them ramble.  Sometimes I help them out.....LOL

source
You do not speak on the phone outside of your job...... Ohhhhh yea....totally me again. Seriously....text me...do not call.  LOL  Growing up (ask my Mommy!!) I used to L-O-V-E being on the phone.  I had all my friend's phone numbers memorized.  I would yap on the phone till my Mom told me it was time to get off.  Now?  I rarely answer my cell phone.  Just the thought of talking sometimes makes me cringe.  Guess that is what happens after 25 years of yacking on the phone for a living.  Sad, but true.  So if I talk to you on the phone.....consider yourself lucky!  :)

source
You start to express your opinions to management more.....  Well...this might be your personality normally.  But for me, I usually do not do this.  However, lately I find myself expressing myself more and more.  Maybe I'm just getting older, or beginning not to really care what they think of me.  The above "someecard" is funny to me....I say we are treated like mushrooms all the time.  LOL!

So there you have my 4 signs.  Can you relate to these?  Tell me in the comments!

Finish This! 13th edition

I missed last weeks edition of Finish This - but I am back!  As always I link up through wonderful bloggers:

Lisa @ Coastlined http://lisadenoia.com/
Jen @ The Arizona Russums http://www.theazrussums.com/
Becky @ The Java Mama http://www.thejavamama.com/

And here we go!

The only thing standing between me and ______ is.........  I think I would answer this one as:  the only thing standing between me and the BEACH is....work.  I mean, having to work is so annoying.  Don't you agree?  It totally messes up plans and really just gets in the way.  LOL  But we do what we have to do I guess.  :)

I don't have to be perfect to be.....  the Mommy to my three doggies.  That's a true statement right there.  If you have a dog (cat or any pet for that matter!) you can understand what I mean.  My three doggies love me unconditionally and they show it everyday.  I could leave the room and come back 5 minutes later and they are excited to see me as if I was gone all day long.  Where else can you get that kind of love except from animals?  Love them!

I would improve ______ by......  I would improve myself by.....Do you have an hour?!  I have a huge list of things I would love to improve about myself.  Guess my biggest struggle at the moment is keeping on my food plan and work out schedule.  Huge pet peeve about myself.  But I am human and I love food, what can I say.  :)

Now it's YOUR turn!  Tell me your answers in the comments below!!

Work stuff

Oh yes….that one co-worker that gets under your skin.  I have one.  I’m sure you do as well.  I am not a mean person, (honest!) but this person talks a lot….about NOTHING.  From the moment they come in till they leave at the end of the day.   Maybe it is just where I am getting these doses of nonsense chatter.  Maybe it would be different if I wasn’t at work?  I don’t know.

But for those that don’t know me well, I was born under the sun sign of Capricorn.  Capricorns are very serious about their work.  I mean SERIOUS.  Not much time for small talk or nonsense chatter.  I want to do my work.  I mean don’t get me wrong, I let loose and talk every now and again.  (LOL)  But for the most part I could do my job with little interaction from any other humans (except the people talking to me on the other end of my phone).  I guess that is why Capricorns might come off as “aloof” or “snobby”.  I’m not really either of those things, I’m just working.

So now that you know this about me, the endless “Are we having fun yet?” or “I’m having way too much fun, someone please make it stop!” can really just drive me to start drinking at work (I would not do that by the way).   Then there are times where they must share about what every customer said to them.  Why?  I have heard the same scenarios about 50 times over the course of my career here. LOL

Anyway, you get the picture.  We all have annoying people we must work with.  Perhaps my quiet manner or aloofness gets on other peoples nerves.  Who knows!

Now shut it, I’m trying to work.  J

Workplace Bullying....it does happen

For real...it DOES happen!  We usually relate bullying to young kids in school, but I've seen it here, at my work more than I would like to admit.  It's not right...whether you are an adult or a young person.

At the workplace is a hard one to figure out though.  Here you have grown adults who should "know better" yet I see it happening.  At first it might be excused as "boy, they sure are having a bad day", but it happens again and again, over and over.  Now we have a problem.

Are they just that miserable in their own lives that they feel the need to do this?  Or maybe they are stressed out and it comes out as bullying.  I don't care what your reasons are, it's WRONG.  I have asked our HR department to implement some kind of employee training/awareness program.  The scary thing is, it's the managers I see doing the bullying.  Now there's a great way to set an example for your employees.

This is exactly what it looks like.  Old school management went out in the 80's, folks.  Get with the program and quit bullying.  End of rant.
